Lucille J Schwarze, 85, passed away May 8, 2023 at Unity Point Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born in Jersey City, New Jersey August 18, 1937 to Louis and Mildred Yorey. She was the youngest of three children with two older brothers Joseph and Louis.

Lucille attended St. Aloysius High School in Jersey City where she was a honor student and led the school’s varsity cheerleading squads. She went on to marry her high school sweetheart, Bob Schwarze, who was from a rival high school. They spent the next 64 years crisscrossing the country where she always made a loving and thriving home. First, it was to their three children, Mary Beth, Bob Jr. and Jay. She then opened her heart to her 7 grandchildren - Sarah, Sam, Susannah, Sophia, Tessa, Isabella and Ava. Most recently it was to her four great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Samuel, Lucia and Lana.

Lucille was an avid and excellent tennis player who competed in numerous tournaments and cherished her many friends she made on and off the court. Lucille unselfishly spent many hours volunteering for numerous civil, social and local school activities. It wasn’t uncommon for her to recall all the fond memories she had of The Bath & Tennis Club in Lake Bluff, Ill., where she served as Treasurer. When not spending time with her family, friends or on the tennis court, she enjoyed her gardens always making the world a more beautiful place while in the company of her beloved dogs.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; and children, Mary Beth (Doug) and Jay (Elizabeth); along with her numerous grand and great-grandchildren. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; her grandson, Sam; and her son, Bob Jr.

Church services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines on Thursday May 11 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation prior from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Lucille will be laid to rest next to her grandson Sammy at St. Patrick Cemetery in Cumming, Iowa.
