Nelda Ruth Agan, 82, passed away on May 8, 2023, at her home in Des Moines. Nelda was born in Corydon, Iowa on January 26, 1941, to Georgia and Everett Agan.

Nelda was a dynamic, proud and a very independent woman. Nelda graduated from Indian Hills Community College in 1968 with a Technical Degree to be a computer programmer. At the time this was a new field and she was told this was a “fly by night” field and working in the industry would be difficult. She easily found a job and moved her family to Des Moines to work for Massey Ferguson as a programmer. Nelda continued her education at Drake University and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Nelda completed her degree while raising five daughters and working full time at Massey Ferguson as a computer programmer. Nelda retired in 2003 from FedEx as a senior data base administrator.

Nelda loved to travel and traveled extensively. Nelda particularly loved visiting the ocean and accompanied her family on many oceanside vacations. Nelda was an artist and was always creating new works of art. Nelda worked with stained glass, sketched and made many quilts for family and friends. Nelda’s greatest love was always her family and friends.

Nelda is survived by her daughters, Denise (Michael) Hundley, Lourene (Steve) Bennett, Wanda (Todd) Eikenberry, Andrea Darcy Richards and Jennifer (Will) Bushbaum. Nelda’s surviving siblings include; George (Carolyn) Agan, Robert (Tanya) Agan and Margaret Megah. Nelda has many grandchildren, Clayton Crosby, James (Kelly) Crosby, Jessica Eikenberry, Adam Eikenberry, Benjamin Nickel, Jacob Nickel, Modusti Bushbaum and Bobbi Hoffman as well as great grandchildren Sicily and Sydney Crosby. Nelda also enjoyed the company of many beloved nieces and nephews.

Nelda was preceded in death by her parents, Georgia and Everett Agan, as well as her daughter Katherine Ann Richards.

Funeral services will take place on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 12:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. The family will receive visitors from 11:00a.m. -12:00 p.m., prior to services at the funeral home.
