May 05, 2023
Michael “Mike” Mikesch, age 55, passed away in the comfort of his home on Friday, May 5, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born the son of William and Cleoda (McMahon) Mikesch on October 21, 1967, in Des Moines, Iowa.
Michael graduated from East High School, class of 1986. Shortly after graduation, Michael joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country from 1988 – 1991. Upon his return, he attended DMACC and went on to study computer science. Michael later worked in both the mortgage business and also did sales for a window/siding/roofing company. He thrived at his job and loved that he was able to travel all around the states for work.
Michael was a true outdoorsman. Over the years, he made many adventurous journeys which included camping at various destinations in the United States as a child and also an adult. Michael had a passion for fishing, hunting, and loved horses whether it be betting on them or spending time with his friends that they owned and trained.
Michael was a dedicated son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He always made time to connect with his entire family, cousins and second cousins included. His cousins were more like siblings to him growing up. Michael would spend countless hours on the phone with his family and friends. Family was most important to him and it was very apparent, he cherished many memories with all of them.
In 2018, Michael left Montana and move back to Iowa to be closer to his parents. The last 5 years cancer has taken its toll on his body, he is currently at peace with Jesus Christ whom he never lost faith in.
He is lovingly survived by his father Bill Mikesch, brother Matthew and his wife Heather, niece Emily, nephews Jacob and Clayton, numerous cousins, and a host of extended family and friends.
Michael was preceded in death by his mother Cleoda Mikesch, grandparents Clayton & Helen Mikesch and Cletus & Christine McMahon.
