Stephen Randall Peters, 74, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2023.
Steve was born April 22, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa to Richard and Roberta (Johnston) Peters. He was the oldest of three siblings. Steve graduated from North High School in Des Moines in 1967. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northeast Missouri State University. Steve briefly worked for Casson & Son Meats, before beginning his teaching career with DMPS at Scavo Alternative High School, before retiring in 2013.
Steve met his wife, Patti Workman, while attending college in the fall of 1969, and the couple married on November 25, 1972. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Steve loved spending time with his granddaughter, Emma, who was his pride and joy.
Steve was an avid bowler, and bowled every Monday night. He was proud of being an Eagle Scout, and enjoyed traveling and riding bicycles with his wife, Patti. He was an excellent cook and wine connoisseur. Steve loved the Iowa State Fair, and attended the fair every day that it was open for 50 years in a row. He was an Iowa Cubs season ticket holder and attended Chicago Cubs spring training games in Arizona. He was an active member of Union Park United Methodist Church. Steve touched the lives of so many and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Patti Peters; daughter, Joanna Tuttle (Andrew); granddaughter, Emma Tuttle; siblings, Gary Peters (Colleen) and Lynnette Moore (Kevin); and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Roberta Peters and both sets of his grandparents.
A memorial service will be held at Union Park United Methodist Church, 2305 E 12th Street, Des Moines, on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Family will greet guests one hour prior to the service.

I am saddened to hear of Steve's passing. As a fellow member of the Class of 67', so many memories of Steve come to mind that I am overwhelmed. My heart goes out to Patti and the family.

We were so sorry to hear of Steve's
