Mary Ballagh

Mary M. Ballagh was born December 28, 1930 to Raymond J. and Elizabeth Maxwell in Mitchellville, Ia. She died on Sunday, April 30, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa.
After graduation, she worked at Dico Corp as an administrative assistant to the president. On October 20, 1950 she married Jack D. Ballagh. Two children were born to them, Mark A. Ballagh and Jackie Eastridge. They lived in Altoona, later moving to Mitchellville where Mary became the city clerk, a position she held for 27 years. Mary also owned Ballagh Insurance and Realty for several years in Mitchellville. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling, quilting and spending time with her family and friends. Her and her husband enjoyed spending many Januarys in Maui with great friends. They moved back to Altoona in 2000.
Survivors include her 2 children, Mark (Katy) Ballagh of Altoona, Iowa and Jackie (Dennis) Eastridge of Mitchellville, Iowa. Her grandchildren, Mark Christopher Eastridge, Chad Ballagh, Brandon Eastridge, Amber Greiner and Nathan Ballagh. 9 great-grandchildren- Maura, Grace, Molly, Jaxson, Aiden, Mason, Hudson, Theo and Griffen.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, 2 sisters and 1 brother.
A memorial visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2023 at Hamilton’s Mitchellville Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at Waveland Cemetery.

I worked with Mary for 20 some years when she was Secretary of Iowa Municipal Finance Officers Association and I was the Treasurer. We had a very good working relationship. So sorry to hear of her passing.

We met at the post office & Mary was one of the first to welcome me to Mitchellville. Her kindness & beautiful smile will be remembered. Our condolences to her loving family.

So sorry for your loss. Mary was a great lady. She was a mentor to me and convinced me that I should take over from her as the IMFOA Secretary! Loved our lunches together and I still use a recipe she gave me. Weve lost a good person.

I have known Mary for over 60 years. She was always a very kind and loving person to all she knew. She will be greatly missed by her family, her many friends and her fellow quilters Mary was a great lady, and there will be a very special place for her in heaven My deepest sympathies to Mark and Katy and Jackie and Denny and their families. May your memories of great times comfort you
