Walter Edward Johnson

Walter Edward Johnson, 87, passed away on April 30, 2023 at Norwalk Nursing and Rehab. No services are planned at this time.

Walter was born August 30, 1935 in Des Moines to Del and Mary Johnson. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1954, and remained a lifelong resident of Des Moines’ Southside. He was lovingly known as “Toad” by his close friends. Walter retired in 1991 at the age of 57 from Super Value Warehouse, where he had worked for 35 years. He enjoyed 30 years of waterskiing, fishing and spending time with his family and close friends at their home on Lake Ponderosa.

Walter is survived by his daughter, Patricia; grandchildren, Michael (Kelsay) Johnson and Diane Paul; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Norma Jean; son, Mark Johnson; sister, Mary M. “Beeb” Plemone; and his parents.
