Warren E. Harne

Warren Earl Harne, 84, passed away Monday, May 1, 2023. He was born November 11, 1938, in Des Moines, Iowa to Harold and Nadine Harne. He attended Phillips Elementary, Woodrow Wilson Junior High, and East High School in Des Moines, graduating in 1957, and was always true to East High. He was very active in the reunion committee of his class.

Warren served in the Iowa Air National Guard. He had various jobs before becoming a fire fighter for the City of Des Moines. He retired in 1996 after serving for 20 years. On his days off from the Fire Department, he worked at Townsend Industries.

Warren and his wife, Sheila were married for 33 years. They enjoyed many travels with friends and family. Warren was very easy going and well-liked by everyone.

Warren loved to play golf and played every Thursday after he retired with his East High buddies. In the winter months, the group would meet for lunch every Wednesday at the Latin King.

His is survived by his wife, Sheila; children, Cheryl Swartzbaugh (Tom) of Texas, Teresa Layton (Jerry) of Indiana, and Van Harne (Julie) of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Megan Gardner (Jeff), Jen Layton, Sidney and Samantha Swartzbaugh, Atalie and Conley Harne; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Sheila’s children, Craig Neagle (Susan), Clark Neagle, and Kristie Lewiston (Dan); and grandchildren, Michael Lewiston, Jackie Leiberton (Jake), and Brittany Neagle.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim Harne; and sister-in-law Madeline.

There will be a celebration of life at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2023, at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway, West Des Moines. The service will be livestreamed the day of through this LINK.
