Gene Stepp

Vernon Eugene Michael Stepp, 75, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2023.

Gene was born June 16, 1947 in Des Moines, Iowa to Winfrey and Esther (Jaggers) Stepp. He devoted himself to the United States Marine Corps, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He was a member of the VFW. Gene will be affectionately remembered as loving his Budweiser and telling people what to do. Once a Marine, always a Marine. After his retirement from the military, Gene worked for Iowa Lutheran Hospital as a Supply Tech.

He is survived daughter, Darcie (Fredrick) Ruchti; grandchildren, Alec Slater, Caleb Slater and Autumn Slater; siblings, Charles Stepp, David Stepp, and Linda Stepp; cousins, Helen Stepp-Miles and Becky John; and many other loving family and friends.

Gene was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Sandra; parents, Winfrey and Esther Stepp; and his brothers, Billy Stepp and Danny Stepp.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel, IA 50003.

To the Stepp family, I worked with Gene for many years at ILH. ( along with your mom Sandy, she was very special lady also)
Gene we would always say to him , we're your favorite department ( he always had lots of deliveries for us) he always had great one liners, never ending stories. Most of all just a great guy. He always stopped by to see us after he retired those were great days. He was definitely one of the good guys, so happy we could be a part of his life while we could! Rest easy master Sargent ❤
