Roberta Jean McKern

Roberta Jean McKern, 81, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2023, at Ramsey Village Nursing Home.

She was born October 3, 1941, in Davis City, Iowa to Emmett Craig and Madolyn Bottoms.

Roberta had a passion for being a homemaker and absolutely loved being a mom and grandma or nanny to most. She enjoyed crafting, baking, and crocheting. She loved to laugh and cook for her family, especially on the holidays.

Roberta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard McKern; sister, Lois Hullinger; step-dad, Paul; step-mom, Mamie; and three brothers-in-law.

She is survived by her children, Richard C. (Sally) McKern, Ramona J. (Kirk) Brown, Reene M. (Tim) Hollingsworth, Rachelle E. (Mike) Davis, and Rebecca L. (Steve) Dingman; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce Shirley; sister-in-law, Gracie McKern; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Leon Cemetery in Leon, Iowa. For those unable to attend the graveside the family invites you to attend virtually by clicking the link below. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, Iowa.
