Lorena Knox
April 23, 2023
Lorena Knox, 92, was called home to God, with family by her side on Sunday, April 23, 2023.
Lorena was born June 12, 1930, in Marianna, Arkansas to Levi and Bellzora Hicks. At an early age Lorena and family moved to Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where she would marry Reuben B. Knox. From this union three children were born, and the marriage would last for 42 years until Rev. R. B. Knox’s passing.
After their marriage they would try living in a few cities, but finally settled on Des Moines, Iowa.
Lorena was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Lorena worked as a teacher’s aide at Logan Elementary, while her children attended the same school.
Lorena loved her role as a minister’s wife. She was very committed to church work, particularly at Second Baptist in Fort Dodge, Iowa where her husband pastored. Here she would teach Sunday school, be on the Church Mother’s Board, and sing in the church choir. She devoted her life to serving God.
Lorena enjoyed gardening, both plants and flowers. She was ambitious and was always learning new skills. She was very knowledgeable, had a positive humble spirit, and was very giving to all. Above all, Lorena loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Elijah Reuben Knox, Martha Ann Knox, and Mark Benjamin Knox (Alexa); seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Lorena was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. R. B. Knox; parents, Levi and Bellzora Hicks; and her siblings, Roy Hicks, Robert Hicks, Lula Horace, James Hicks, Mary Louise Triplett, David Hicks, and Delores Crawford.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will take place at Glendale Cemetery after the services. There will be a luncheon at the funeral home following the burial.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Lorena.
