Michael Morr

Michael D. Morr, born May 15, 1957 in Norfolk, VA., he was the only child of Joe and Edie Morr. Mike passed away on April 21, 2023 from complications of COPD at home under the care of WesleyLife Hospice.

Mike married Joyce Gibson on March 5, 1976. He graduated from Ankeny High School, class of 1975. Mr. Mike as everyone knew him was the owner/operator of Altoona Kidsworld Day Care. Mike and Joyce opened AKW in 1990. Mr. Mike touched the lives of many Altoona SEP families and children. His grumpy exterior did not at all reflect his love for the children. His priority was always making sure things were being done properly and he was very hands on. Mike loved the Boston Celtics, was an avid coin collector and liked his visits to Prairie Meadows. He enjoyed family gatherings and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Mike had many health issues related to COPD but never complained or would never admit his time was short. The past year he has been home still managing his business and enjoying his family to the best of his ability. He adored his 4 grandchildren, his yorkie Daisy and his cat, Callie. Mike’s family was always his number one priority. He was only a phone call away if anyone needed anything.

Mike is survived by his wife, Joyce of 47 years; daughter, Anne (Nick) Rodriguez; son, Michael; mother Edie Morr; grandchildren, Nicolas and Kate Rodriguez and Rylee and Brennan Morr.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Morr.
