Sheryl R. Dickey, 78, passed away at her home on Sunday, April 23, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Sheryl was born July 7, 1944, in St. Paul, Minnesota. She had lived in Des Moines since 1972. Sheryl retired from the State of Iowa in 2006, where she worked in Vocational Rehabilitation Services and later in the Child Support Recovery Division. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially around Christmas, listening to music, traveling with loved ones, and watching wildlife. She had a love of playing games with her family, especially cards. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren’s activities.

Sheryl is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Ron Dickey; children, Teresa (Al) Hill, Kimberly (Dan) Steil, Tom (Tracy) Birnbaumer, Todd Birnbaumer, Tina (David) Palmer; grandchildren, Sarah Birnbaumer, Mindy Belew, Josh (Sabrina) Birnbaumer, David (Ashley) Allen, DJ (Brianna) Palmer and Morgan Palmer; 10 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Rhonda Ritt and Sandra Tacheny.

She was preceded in death by her mother Llelvyn Six and daughter Lisa Birnbaumer.

The family will greet friends Friday, April 28th from 12 pm - 2 pm at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street with the funeral service to follow at 2 pm.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa Methodist Unity Point Cancer Department - (3rd Floor Powell) in Sheryl’s name.
