Briyahn Catori Warner

Service Details

Briyahn Catori Warner stepped from this realm into the next on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at the age of 20.

She was born on March 27, 2003 to Brandon J. Warner and Kimberly (Garrard) Warner, in Fort Dodge, IA, later relocating to Des Moines at the age of 2. From that young age, the fabric of her sleeves remained interwoven with a competitive heart along with a love for laughter and all things beautiful on this planet. She identified magic and purpose in the simplest things and might’ve shared it with you, if granted the space and your grace.

Briyahn never actually got into an official fist-fight, but kinda always wanted to…. One might’ve concluded that it was too difficult for her to harbor the anger necessary to check this off the bucket list. C'est la vie. However, most other things she set her mind to in this life, she accomplished. She was a state/regional champion in multiple events and an All-American, Junior Olympic medalist track athlete, just 8 years after birth. She competed as a Rough Rider volleyball player in high school. In her third year at Iowa State University, she had found her career path through Psychology and Human Services related coursework which served to motivate her as she began to flourish in her newest role as an outreach coordinator addressing teen domestic violence and other issues facing today’s youth.

Her mother, Kim, was her champion and best friend. Briyahn made this known. Her father, ‘PHATE, was her champion and best friend. Briyahn made this known. She often spoke of how two or more things can be true at once, and understood that this existence cannot always boil down to a simple truth of the “either, or,” variety.

In her down-time, Briyahn was known to mend a relationship, present an epiphany, or be a comedian, and she executed each service well and most often, pro bono.

Briyahn is survived by her aforementioned parents as well as her 2 loving grandparents Chuck & Janet Garrard, with too many cousins, uncles, aunties, nieces, nephews and “play cousins,” to name without pissing off the one person we’d be likely to forget.. She is preceded in death by her great grandparents, Johnny & Pauline Golden, and James & Nancy Daniel.

The celebration of Briyahn’s time spent on this planet will begin at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will follow the funeral service until 5:00 p.m.
