Scott Salz
April 18, 2023
Scott Alan Salz, 59, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2023.
Scott was born May 19, 1963, in Mason City, Iowa to John and Arlene (Godfrey) Salz. He was employed by Nationwide Insurance as a consultant. First and foremost in his life was his family. He was a devoted husband and a wonderful father. He adored his granddaughters and loved game night. Scott was known as Mr. Fix-It. He loved cruising and visiting wineries and breweries. He was a prankster, was friendly to everyone, and was well-known and loved. He could talk to anyone, and if he ever met a stranger, they quickly became a friend. He loved socializing and spending time with his family, and was the master of the “Iowa Goodbye”. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Jacki Salz; children, Michael (Aubrey) Salz, Thomas (Rachel) Salz, Karen (Jason Brown) Kolb, Keith (Tina) Kolb; granddaughters, Autumn Salz, Lucy Kolb, Lily Brown; brothers, David (Linda) Salz, Brian (Laurie) Salz, Mark (Terry) Salz; nephew and niece, Jason (Sarah) Salz and Heather (Kyle) Fine; and countless friends.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, John and Arlene Salz.
There will be a memorial visitation Sunday, April 30, 2023, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to a charity of your choice.

Scott is a friend to ALL. I had the fortunate opportunity to sit next to Scott nearly a 3rd of my long career at Nationwide. He had many visitors at his desk seeking help with making sense of data. He was a Mr. Fix-It helping others with their data needs. Over-hearing those visits, it was evident that Scott was not only a co-worker, but a friend to All. Never did I hear a negative word about others, only respect for others. Scott also had a knack for bringing light humor to conversations and meetings. Thank you for the influence Scott, and the memories. My thoughts and prayers for you, Jacki, and family you helped raise.

I am completely shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Scott's passing. I worked closely with him at Nationwide for the past few years, and while our time together as coworkers was relatively short, the impact he had on me was overwhelmingly positive and will be lasting. Scott truly was a great guy, who had a gift for being able to connect with people. Everyone liked him so much! His spirit, his warm nature, his sense of humor, and his dry (yet incredibly sharp!) wit will be dearly, dearly missed. Most of all I will miss just talking to him. My deepest condolences to his family and to his many loved ones.

Hello Jacki,
I was one of the Harleysville employees that reported to Lisa Berke and you were instrumental in helping us gain access to the NW applications/data sources.
I recently worked with Scott on a DOI request. He provided the personal lines data that was needed. We chatted a bit about your retirement, marriage, kids and just life in general. He had a great outlook on life. He also appeared to have a good work / life balance. It was apparent that he loved his family. He liked to be helpful and I found him to be a great person to chat with. And how could you not loved his sense of humor.
When I heard of his passing, I was overwhelmed with sadness. Im so sorry for your loss. He was a good guy. You and your family are in my prayers.

Jacki and family, I want you to know how much folks at work are going to miss Scott, and how sorry I am. Scott often shared photos of his grandkids and talked fondly of them, you all, and his pets too. His sense of humor was the absolute best (NEVER sarcastic). I hope all the great memories help give you strength.

Jacki introduced Scott to my wife and I when they were dating. We both fell in love with Scott. The 4 of us tried to do everything we could together. Whatever we did we always had so much fun. Whether we were at home playing games, on a cruise, going to a winery, going to Mexico or anything else, we had the time of our lives. We have so many great memories being with Scott. We are going to miss him so much. We will always remember all those wonderful times we shared together. Love you our friend!
