Danny was one of those guys that as soon as you met him he was your friend. I played Little League Baseball with him, and worked with him at Burger Chef on Fleur Dr., while we were in high school. Tom Briggs, Paul Ahlberg and I all worked with him at B. C. We used to laugh at him when he so gently wrapped a burger up in the paper wrapper, and signed it so eloquently with his thumb firmly indented half way through the sandwich. We called him thumbs, in fact after I found him, I asked him if he was previously known as Danny Thumbs Comegys, and he replied he vaguely remembered that name from his past. Sometimes I wished I hadn't left Des Moines to join the Air Force and spent more time hanging out with him. He was a great person and I wish we could of been much closer friends, but that's the way he was, he had that charisma that he was that likable, and no matter what, he had your back. Rest in peace my friend. I didn't know you but a few years, but you will always be remembered. As Mr Thumbs, and your gentle manner.

Big Danny was truly the best man I ever knew. I could write pages about the stuff he's done to help me. But that's not what he would want. He was my best friend for 43 years. He was my brother. There is forever a piece of me missing with you gone BigD. I miss you. I haven't come to grips with you being gone yet. See you in heaven, if I make it there.
