Burnell (Gus) Charles Gonnerman was born November 22, 1930, in Dysart, Iowa to parents Charles and Marie (Winter) Gonnerman. He was one of 11 children and grew up on a farm near Dysart.

Gus loved playing basketball and excelled in the center position on both his high school and college teams. He also enjoyed working on the family farm and never lost his love of farming. Gus was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War Conflict.

He was married to Juanita (Nita) Donnelly of Springfield, IL. They were married 38 years and had two daughters, Lynn and Luann.

The passion of Gus’s life was being a pastor and sharing God’s Word with others. During the early years of marriage, he felt led to move his family to northern Minnesota to attend Oak Hills Bible Institute and become the pastor at a small country church. He pastored several churches: Grace Chapel in rural Bagley, Minnesota; Fundamental Bible Chapel in Pilot Mound, Iowa; Calvary Baptist Church in Belmond, Iowa, held various interim positions, and lastly served as outreach pastor at Grace Baptist Church in Mankato, Minnesota. He led countless Bible studies, supported missionaries all over the world, and consistently shared the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ with anyone around him.

Gus is survived by his daughters, Lynn (Dick) Ober and Luann Gonnerman; four siblings, Dean (Eunice) Gonnerman, VirJean Gonnerman, Gary (Marguerite) Gonnerman, Allen (Jan) Gonnerman, and sister-in-law, Esther Gonnerman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nita; parents Charles and Marie; siblings Angeline Dwyer, Beverly Kern, Maydine Gonnerman, Virginia Gonnerman, LaVerne Gonnerman, Lorraine Gonnerman, and sister-in-law Sheryl Gonnerman.

A memorial service will be held at Saylorville Church on Monday, April 17th, at 11:00 a.m., following visitation at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Saylorville Church missions fund in memory of Gus.
