Jean Ethel Brown, 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 8, 2023.
Jean was born October 4, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Bernard and Ethel (Keegan) Brown. She lived in Cedar Rapids for the first 93 years of her life, moving to Altoona recently. She earned her Master’s degree from the University of Iowa and was a teacher for her entire career. She taught in Cedar Rapids and the surrounding area for over 43 years. Jean was extremely dedicated to her family and always put them first. She was a lifelong avid Hawkeyes fan.
She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Wolfe; sister-in-law, Dorothy Brown; nieces, Kathy (Michael) Naylor, Kindra (Larry) Nudd, Carie (Stephen) Kramer; nephews, Robert (Pam) Wolfe, Matthew (Tammy) Brown, Michael Brown, Mark (Jackie) Brown; many great-nieces and nephews, other extended family, and friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Ethel Brown; brother, Robert Brown; brother-in-law, Bill Wolfe; nephew, Donald Wolfe; and great-nephew, Troy Brown.
Funeral mass will take place at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 3300 Easton Blvd, Des Moines at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2023, with a luncheon to follow. Family will greet guests one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will take place at Marengo Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.

Jean was such a good friend. I have many fun memories of her. We taught together in Cedar Rapids many years ago. Then I moved to Los Angeles, but we kept in touch over the years. I will miss her happy laugh and her sweet smile. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I was so sad to have seen this in the paper this morning. that my third grade teacher had passed away. Jean was one outstanding lady. and she always took her time with us kids to be the most special teacher we could have had. Jean my your days be blessed with the love of God and watching over all of us from the best classroom ever and that is in the home of our Lord. God bless you for all you was and what you gave us in return The best Teacher that any one could have had. Rest in Peace Jean you will sure be missed by all that had the Honor of knowing you.
