Yvonne Aversa
April 10, 2023
Yvonne Aversa, 89, passed away peacefully at home with her husband by her side on the morning of April 10, 2023.
A visitation and Celebration of Life Mass will be held at St Anthony’s Church. Visitation at the church from 12 pm to 2 pm. Mass to follow at 2 pm.
Yvonne was born August 26, 1933, to Keith and Madge Harvey in Redding, Iowa. She was the 2nd of four children.
On January 10, 1951, Yvonne married Joe Aversa of Oelwein, Iowa at St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines. Together they established their roots on the South side of Des Moines, where they resided their entire married life of 72 years, whilst 68 of those years were spent at their family home in Little Italy.
Yvonne was a dedicated Cub Scout den leader for 7 years while her boys were growing up. During those years, Yvonne and Joe were avid square dancers, having participated in many National Conventions with some of their closest friends. After her role as a den leader, she worked for Farmland Insurance and Nationwide Insurance until her retirement.
After retirement, Yvonne and her best friend, Mary Sitroneto, bought a 34’ motor home and set off for adventure. Side by side they traveled and explored the United States for many years, creating unforgettable memories and stories that she loved to share.
Yvonne loved nothing more than being a mother and a Nana. She had an overflowing love and care for her family, as well as her friends, and would always help on a moment's notice. You could always count on her support, warmth, and kind heart.
She will always be remembered for her infectious smile, that twinkle in her eye, the pep in her step, and her can-do personality. Her positive mindset and bountiful energy will live on in the hearts of many.
Yvonne’s passion and love of her life, adventure, family, friends, and an unfailing faith in the Lord, made everyday a day worth living. She lived a life of no regrets, but a life filled with lessons learned to grow and evolve and with momentous memories made.
She spent her final hours of the evening of Easter Sunday full of joy and love where she was surrounded by the comfort and companionship of her husband, son Joe, granddaughter, and great-grandchildren in her home.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marylyn, and brother Ed. She is survived by her husband Joe, sister, Joanne (Bill), sons Joe and Dino (Barb), granddaughter Carla and great-grandchildren Damian, Gage, and Arianna.

Joe, Little Joe, Dino and family..... Yvonne was and will remaining in our hearts forever. She was very very close to being a second mother during our early years. Walking from 212 to your home was something I will always remember. Hearing her call me "Red" was something I have always treasured. She will be missed on earth, but heaven has a lot of excitement happening. May she Rest In Peace. All our love, The Rizzuti Family
