Gaylord John Teter was born December 8, 1933 in Adair County, Iowa to Clifton G. and Argetha McGinnis Teter. He passed away Tuesday, April 4 at The Village Senior Living Center in Indianola, Iowa at the age of 89. A private memorial will be held at a later date.

Gaylord graduated from Greenfield High School in 1952. After graduation he worked in a gas station. Gaylord married Lona Hoadley on July 25, 1954. Gaylord joined service in the Navy where he was a machinist first mate on the USS Bayfield out of San Diego, California.

After leaving San Diego Gaylord and Lona lived in Jefferson and Norwalk, Iowa before moving to Des Moines in 1959. The couple had two sons, Gary Lee and Steve Allen Teter.

Gaylord worked for Borden Dairy and Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company before training as a heating and cooling specialist. He then worked for Campbell Industries for a number of years until his retirement.

Gaylord and his family traveled extensively in Iowa and the United States and he enjoyed sightseeing, camping, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Holiday Ramblers RV Club and enjoyed their many activities.

After retirement Gaylord spent winters in Arizona, the last few years at Wagon West RV Park. Gaylord spent many happy hours driving the desert trails and through the mountain passes in the Quartzsite area.

Gaylord leaves to honor his life his partner Jean DeLap; son Steve (Marcia); grandchildren John (Megan Pederson) and Erin (Mike Leach); sister Sharon Herrmann and many other relatives and friends.

Gaylord was preceded in death by his mother and father, wife Lona and son Gary.
