Rebecca Cannady

Rebecca Jean Cannady, 63, passed away on April 3, 2023 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. She was born in Leon, Iowa on June 9, 1959, the daughter of Robert and Shelby Laughlin.

Rebecca graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines and spent her career working in various divisions of the State of Iowa. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and quilting. Her greatest joy was playing with her grandson, Park and spending time with family.

Rebecca is survived by her daughter, Hannah (Danny) Nelson; step-daughter, Angela (Paul) Valentine; grandson, Park Cannady; step-grandsons, Conner and Ian Valentine; sisters, Barbara (John) Cox and Kathy (Kevin) Swensen; nieces, nephews, extended family; honorary daughter, Tonya Chambers and her family and honorary son, Chad Johnson and his family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steven Cannady; parents, Shelby and Robert Laughlin.

Services will be held at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., in Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., on Thursday, April 6, 2023 with a 12:00 p.m. funeral service on Friday, April 7, 2023. Burial will take place at 12:30 p.m., on Monday, April 10, 2023 at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
