Cynthia "Cindy" Jo Gandy

Cynthia “Cindy” Jo Gandy, 67, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2023, at the VA Hospital in Des Moines.
Cindy was born July 15, 1955, in Des Moines. She grew up on the east side of Des Moines and was a proud graduate of East High School. She married Doug Gandy on November 16, 1984, and they were happily married until he passed away in January 2018.
Cindy loved spending time with her family and friends, spending hours laughing and telling stories. She also enjoyed reading, doing word search puzzles, and crafts. Cindy loved her cats. When she moved into the Cottage at the VA they got her a small robotic cat that brought her a lot of happiness in her final days.
Cindy will be remembered by her daughters, Dawn (Will) Dale and Brandy Clark; mother, Ina Williams; sister, Vicki Burgess; brothers, Jeff (Darcy) Williams and Steven (Evelyn) Williams; sisters-in-law, Diane (John) Wilcox and Deedie (Jim) Hildreth; brothers-in-law, Mike (Bev) Gandy and Tim (Tammy) Gandy; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Doug Gandy; daughter, Amber Gandy; father, Gilbert Williams; and sister, Joyce Law.
The family will greet friends on Friday, April 7, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Cindy will be laid to rest at Vandalia Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, her daughters ask that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa in loving memory of Cindy.

Family: I grew up across the street from Cindy. Neighborhood kids all played games like hide and seek. Later I followed her life events from my sister Deb. Bless all family and friends with Cindy passing. Diana Slaughter Floden.

I will forever miss reminiscing our childhood days together. Life long friends since the age of 5. So many laughs between us. God bless her family. RIP Cindy.
