Crecencio “Hector” Vigil Sr. 82, of Des Moines IA, died April 1, 2023, at his home after a brief illness.
Hector was born January 12, 1941, in Harlingen, Texas, to Pedro and Emelia (Garcia) Vigil. Hector didn’t have the opportunity for much formal education. He helped out his family by working in cotton fields starting at an early age. His work ethic led him to become an auto mechanic and own his own shop, Delaware Services for many years. In his retirement years, Hector worked for Downtown Operations.
In his spare time, he enjoyed being outside doing yard work, rooting for the Detroit Lions, and playing games with his family. He loved spending time with family, spoiling his grandchildren, and watching westerns and wrestling.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Vigil of Des Moines; sisters, Mary and Helen; brothers, Able and Pedro; sons, Crecencio Jr Vigil (Stacy), Johnny Vigil, Michael Vigil (Kasi), Pedro Vigil (Allison), and Robert Nugent (Cheri); and daughters, Emelia (Jesse) Rodriquez, Ida Vigil, Tracy Cory, and Robin (Andrew) Headrick. He is the cherished grandpa and papa to 26 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild on the way.
He was preceded in death by his father, Pedro Vigil; mother, Emelia; brothers, Victor and Jimmy; sisters, Ludin, Ida, and Lilly.
At the wishes of the deceased, there will be no services. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to make donations to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s Association.
