Elisabeth Maxine Wilson

Elisabeth “Lisa” Maxine Wilson (born High), 97, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away from natural causes at Urbandale Health Care Center on March 30, 2023.

Lisa was born on October 3, 1925, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, but raised in Wichita Falls, Texas. In Texas, she was a columnist, reporter, writer, and legal secretary. In 1960, she married Morris Wilson in Wichita Falls, and the couple moved to Iowa.

Lisa was a rockhound, avidly collecting geodes, rocks, and minerals in her adopted state. Her hobbies also included a book-lover’s club, enjoying her dachshund dogs and cats, and playing bridge and other card games with family and friends. She was active in volunteer work, which included voter polling stations and nursing home boards. She also had a spiritual bent, became a minister, was active in ARE and Spiritual Frontiers, and was a choir member at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church for many years.

Her husband Morris died in 2005. After a few years at her home, Lisa moved in with her son Patrick, and lived there until recently, enjoying the company of her grandchildren Jacob, Nina, and Lizzie, as well as her great-grandson Miles. She is survived by all of them and her son Martin. Lisa will be missed.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Unity of Des Moines, 414 31st Street, where Lisa was a long-time member. Floral tributes may be sent to Unity of Des Moines in loving memory of Lisa.
