Thomas Wayne Rhoades, age 71, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

Tom was born April 26, 1951, in Des Moines, Iowa to Ernest Melvin and Beverly Jean (Marshall) Rhoades. He was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. Tom was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He worked as a truck driver for Ruan for most of his career. He married the love of his life, Geraldine (McKinney) Rhoades on April 26, 1997, and it was the best birthday present he ever received. Tom was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He always put his family first and loved spending time with them. Tom enjoyed going to the casino, was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan, and loved a night out at the Texas Roadhouse.

Tom is survived by his wife, Geri Rhoades; son, James (Alicia) Rhoades; three grandchildren; sisters, Pam (Tony) Poe, Lorri Leege, and Fran Nielsen; and many nieces, nephews, other loving extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Beverly Rhoades; brother, Ernest Rhoades; and brother-in-law, Jim Leege.

There will be a private gathering for family, followed by cremation. Tom will be laid to rest with military honors at Iowa Veterans Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.
