Helen Miller

Helen M. Miller, 85, passed away on March 27, 2023. She was born in Albia, IA on February 26, 1938, the daughter of Margaret L. Smiley and Edward F. Kent.
Helen was united in marriage to Adrian Max Miller on March 30, 1956. She was a 1956 graduate of Tech High School in Des Moines, where she meet her husband, Max. While attending high school, her trade was retail merchandising and she was also a majorette.
After graduating, she worked for Hills Department Store in downtown Des Moines. Later in life she became a homemaker and ran an in-home daycare for many years.
Helen enjoyed taking care of children and attending many of her own children and grandchildren’s sport activities. She was a “regular” at BINGO, was a league bowler and enjoyed square dancing with her husband. Helen also enjoyed watching college and professional sports on T.V. She had a special place in her heart for all animals, and took in many strays that needed a good home. Above all, Helen’s greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Helen is survived by her children, Adrian Max (Michelle) Miller Jr., Scott (Diane) Miller, Cheryl (Mark) DePhillips and son in law, Dave Payne.; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving family and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; husband, Max; daughter, Kathleen “Kate” Payne; aunts and uncles.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, IA. Family will receive guest from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

I just found out that Helen passed. My condolences to Helen's family. My mom and dad were great friends with Helen and Max, my mom having known her since high school. I have great memories of both of them. They were both good, decent folks.
