Service Details

David Lee Borreson, 81, passed away on March 22, 2023. He was born on February 13, 1942, in La Crosse, WI, the son of Oscar and Marie Borreson.

David was born and raised in Wisconsin, graduating from West Salem High School in West Salem, WI in 1960. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served until 1968. He was stationed in the Philippines and then remained stateside for the duration of his service.

On June 13, 1964 he married the love of his life, Kay Olson. His military career, as well as his career with Centel Corporation took them on many adventures, including to Florida, Texas, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Virginia ultimately laying down roots in Lincoln, Nebraska. And yes, he was a Husker fan. He probably became more of a Husker fan because his son-in-law, Jason, was such a fan. If you asked him recently he would tell you his favorite college team was the Cornhuskers. He remained a true Packer fan as well.

David spent his entire career working for Centel (later Sprint) retiring as a Data Processing/Analyst Manager. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and hiking. David also played AAA Softball for many years while living in Nebraska. He was a pitcher and enjoyed quite a bit of success. He continued to play into his 50’s and then shared his passion with his grandson’s. He spent several years as an assistant coach while Jason coached the boys on various baseball teams.

In retirement, David moved to Ankeny to be closer to family. He was involved in all his grandsons’ activities, sporting events, and taking them fishing and hiking. There were many hikes and adventures at Saylorville Lake. David was an active member of The Mission Church and served for many years with the AWANA program. He also served as an usher until his health prevented this.

David is survived by his daughter, Tracy (Jason) Griess; brother, Jerry (Sandra) Borreson; grandsons, Grayeson, Harrison, and Alexander Griess; a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay; parents; and siblings, Gene and Carla.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., on Friday, March 31, 2023 at The Mission Church, 12001 Ridegemont Drive Urbandale, IA. A 10:30 a.m. funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at The Mission Church, 12001 Ridgemont Dr., in Urbandale. Private burial will take place at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
