Janet Gray
March 18, 2023
Janet Kay Gray, 78, passed away on March 18, 2023 in Des Moines. She was born in Corning, IA on October 23, 1944, daughter of Howard and Evelyn (Ridnour) Roberts.
Jan retired from Principal Financial after 30 years of faithful service. She loved her night pool leagues she joined after retiring and treasured the friendships she made there. Jan was an avid card player, especially Texas Hold ‘Em. She enjoyed crocheting many afghans and lace doilies. Jan lovingly enjoyed being referred to by her friends as “Cougar”, as she was always seen living it up on the dance floor with much younger gentlemen that couldn’t quite keep up with her dancing skills. She loved traveling, especially to Minnesota on her annual fishing trips. Jan enjoyed her time at Prairie Meadows, where she always mysteriously “lost” but always had money to treat the family to dinner and enough for her next gambling trip out there. She was a devoted military wife and mother. Above all else, she treasured time spent with her family.
Jan is survived by her daughter, Lana (Chris Sullivan) Harris; son, William (Dina) Gray; siblings, Glen (Mary Lou) Roberts and Lila Behrens; 5 grandchildren, Kyle (Holly Crandell) Gray, Christina (James Nelson) Gray, Michelle Gray, Brad (Nicole) Harris and Mindy (Dan) Wall; and 5 great grandchildren; brothers in law, Danny Oswald and William C. Gray; sisters in law, Ruth Roberts, Elsie Gray and Mildred Gray. Jan has many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Along with many extended family and friends.
Jan is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; son in law, Remie Harris; siblings, Larry Roberts, Glenna Day and Mary Oswald.
Services will be held on Monday, March 27, 2023 at 2:00 p.m., at Hamiltons near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. There will be a visitation on Sunday, March 26, 2023 from 2:00 -4:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

What a Lucky day for my late husband and I when we moved across the street from Bob & Jan!
They had a young son and rode their Big Wheels around the neighborhood sidewalks and played with our son, friends almost immediately. The clatter that the Big Wheels generated always gave away where our boys were. We became avid pinochle fans and had Friday or Saturday card and pizza nights. What great times we had! Will miss you, Jan, And always remember the GOOD TIMES!

My husband Bob, and mother in law Susie were on a pool league with Jan. I would tag along and watch and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Jan. I loved hearing her speak of her late husband and her family. I can still see her singing along to the music making requests for the oldies to be played. I can just picture her beautifully manicured nails. I will carry fond memories of Jan with me forever, as well as all the lovely pool ladies that are gone too soon. Love and prayers to your family.
