Service Details

Jacqueline Lee (Love) Murray, of Ankeny, passed away on March 20, 2023, at the age of 83. Jackie was born July 30, 1939 to James and Helen (Day) Love in Des Moines, Iowa. She was the youngest sister to Eleanor Hesseling, Jean Brumbaugh, Mary Flatt, and Jim Love. Jackie had many fond memories of being the baby of the family.

Jackie attended Des Moines Public Schools, graduating from Roosevelt High School. She worked at Meredith Publishing prior to and after graduation. She married Paul David Murray May 14, 1966. They had two children, Kristi Kay and David James. The family moved to Ankeny in 1973.

Jackie stayed home to care for her children when they were young. She returned to various part-time jobs when the kids were in school. She found her niche at Heartland Area Education Agency, first in Ankeny and then in Johnston, working in the bindery.

Jackie’s children and grandchildren were always a priority in her life. She loved having all seven of them over to her house for sleepovers. When she retired from Heartland AEA in 2000, she happily took on the role of Grandma Babysitter to Dave and Jenni’s children, Ashlyn, Natalie, and Luke for many years.

Jackie will be remembered for her love of preparing food for her family. No one ever left Jackie’s house hungry or without a bag of goodies from her pantry. The family lovingly refers to her as a “food pusher.” Jackie’s favorite treat was always ice cream. She was very proud to have her picture in the newspaper, as a young girl, for her many visits to Reed’s Ice Cream in Des Moines.

Jackie is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and husband.

Surviving Jackie are her daughter, Kristi and Kevin Meyers of Jesup, Iowa, son Dave and Jenni Murray of Ankeny, Iowa, seven grandchildren: Kaylee Mehmen, Megan Tomson, Kate Tomson, Maddie Tomson and Ashlyn Murray, Natalie Murray, and Luke Murray.

As per Jackie’s request there will be no funeral service. A family gathering will take place at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff of Arbor Springs in West Des Moines and Suncrest Hospice for their kindness and care of Jackie in her final months.
