Richard "Coach" Camp, 88, died November 17, 2009, at his home.
Dick was born in Des Moines September 11, 1921.
Dick played quarterback for the Drake Bulldogs in the late 1940s. After college, he was a teacher and a coach in Sac City, Iowa then the Des Moines School District including head football and basketball coach at North High School.
He is survived by his son, Gary (Terry) Jennings; granddaughter, Summer (Daniel) Grounds; great-granddaughter, Surfia Grounds and many other loving family and friends. His wife, Pat, and his parents, Hazel and N. Harry Camp, preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be held at noon, Saturday, November 28, 2009, at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM, Friday, November 27 at the funeral home.

I played under Dick in Sac City, in 1950s, and deeply respected him. I then lost track of him when I went off to college and my parents left Iowa. Please accept my sincere condolences.
I would love to hear from a son or daughter to learn more about his life after Sac City.

To the family of ~ COACH RICHARD "DICK" CAMP ~
COACH CAMP will be missed by those who knew him. I know that there as those, like myself, who knew him in the mid~1950's, in Sac City, Iowa, where he was our teacher and for many of us ~ he was our COACH. He had a football player's physique and definitely commanded respect. I remember him as being a fair and just man. COACH was well liked by the student's.
I think many of us can attribute some of our character growth to COACH CAMP's ability to bring out the best in us through sports and counseling. Personally, I thank him for helping me with some of my self~esteem problems... which helped me later, during a 20 year Air Force Police {Vietnam 2 years} career and a 19 year civilian Police Chief career.
COACH CAMP may have crossed~over to the other~side, but those who remain, whose lives he touched, will not forget him anytime soon.
Condolences to COACH's family, GOD bless you all. GOD bless COACH's SPIRIT on the other~side.

Gary and Family,
Dick was a teammate and a friend. We played football together at Drake and in the Salad Bowl game in Arizona.
When we had our Over-the-Hill Gang reunions, my wife, Lynne, and I spent many hours with your parents. Your dad and I also played golf together on a number of those reunion weekends. We always had a lot of fun!
Lynne and I will not be able to attend the funeral, though we would like to.
We are very sorry for your loss.

To the family of Dick Camp....
I am unable to put into words how much I cared for Dick.
My husband Dick & him would play golf and did until his last summer 2002
Dick Horton passed away 12-15-2002.
I missed Pat & knew it was hard for Dick & Murphy to go on without her,
I feel having Murphy helped.
He loved his garden & I have a picture of Dick and Murphy walking thru' the garden gate. It was taken by a family member & Pat let me make a copy.
This picture says a lot about Dick.
He was a kind, loyal & gentle person and always followed the rules of life.
He was a very special person to me and my husband Dick.
I'm sure they will both be playing golf & if Camp finds a tractor he will have Dick to fix it for him.....Sincerely Dolores Horton
