Michael Coffman

Michael Vernon Coffman, age 68, died in the early hours of Thursday morning, March 16, 2023. Mike was being cared for by Israel Family Hospice in Ames and passed peacefully due to complications of colon cancer.

Mike was born February 22, 1955, in Winterset, Iowa to Vernon and Kathryn “Jean” (Waters) Coffman. He graduated from Ballard High School. Mike began work in the sanitation business with Freel’s in Ames and was employed with them for many years. The majority of his working career was spent driving dump trucks for Manatts, Conley Trucking and he retired from Krumm Trucking in 2021. Mike loved working on cars, especially his 1965 Barracuda, and enjoyed helping his brother at Coffman Service. He loved his cat, Tiger and was an Iowa Hawkeye sports fan.

He is survived by his mother, Jean Coffman; children, Matthew (Theresa) Coffman, John Coffman, and Katie Coffman; grandson, Joshua Coffman; siblings, Diane (Joe) Schall, Terry (Valerie) Coffman, Pat (Donna) Coffman, Carol (Terry) Bailey, Lynne Coffman, Mark (Anna) Coffman, Paul Coffman, and Joleen (Jason) Bohning; ex-wife, Gina Coffman; and many nieces, nephews, other extended family, and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Vern Coffman and his nephew, Eric Schall.

According to Mike’s wishes, cremation will occur and there will be no services.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Mike.

Our Thoughts and Prayers are with the family and we know Mike is in a better place. Being around Mike was a challenge sometimes, but was very eventful most of the time. He will be missed! :)
