Marlys C. Daniels, 88, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in her sleep on March 13, 2023, at Regency Assisted Living in Norwalk, Iowa.

She was born December 15, 1934 to John and Eda (Rasmussen) Clemenson in Graettinger, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Weldon Daniels of Estherville on April 23, 1954, and made their home in Des Moines. They were married for 26 years until his death.

Marlys retired from Brenton Bank after many years as a teller. After that, she worked part-time as an assistant manager at Budget Storage for 15 years until she retired full-time.

Marlys loved the outdoors. In her spare time, she worked in her flower garden and enjoyed watching and feeding the wild birds. Before she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s she read many books and loved going to the movies. She remained very active and loved to get outside and walk.

It was a great joy for her to be a grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Weldon; sisters, Elaine Richardson, Lenor Jensen, and Kathy Beschorner-Reinders; and her companion of many years, LeRoy Sims.

She is survived by her sisters, Delores (Robert) Barringer of Spencer and Judy Garrelts of Ayrshire. Also, her children, Linda (Dave) Kaili, Craig (Linda) Daniels, and Shelly Daniels all of Des Moines; five grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren. We can’t forget her beloved cat, Maggie, and her devoted friend, Jim Perry who was very special to her.

Because of her love of animals, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa or Animal Lifeline of Iowa in loving memory of Marlys.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
