Don Piper, 91, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Regency Care Center in Norwalk.

Don was born on January 28, 1932, in Des Moines the son of Chris and Lucille Piper. He married Jean (Russo) Piper on June 29, 1952.

Don retired from John Deere in 1987. Don loved wintering in Texas with his wife, Jean for many years. Don also loved to wheel and deal, buying and selling cars and spending every year at the Knoxville Nationals with his son.

Don is survived by his children, Linda (Randy) Owen, Rick (Janet) Piper, and Kelly (Mike Carter) McElvogue; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Jean; his parents; a brother; a son-in-law; a grandson; and a great-grandson.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League in loving memory of Don.
