Fred Ellis

Frederick Lee Ellis, 81, passed away Monday, January 9, 2023 at home in Lakeland, Florida. He was born January 12, 1941 to Ben and Edna (Flori) Ellis in Des Moines.

Fred graduated from East High School in 1959. He served in the National Guard for six years, was a member of Elks and retired from IBM after 26 years of service.

Fred is survived by his wife, Susan Dewey Ellis; children, Jennifer (Rick) Durr and Randy Ellis; grandchildren, Libby Thomas and Ricky Durr; sister, Judy Finchum; and a host of other family and many beloved friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Steve Ellis.

A Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, in Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the American Heart Association in loving memory of Fred.
