Sharon Brooks

Sharon Edith Brooks, age 83, passed away peacefully due to complications of cancer on Friday, March 3, 2023.
Sharon was born February 27, 1940, in Des Moines, Iowa to Danny and Margaret (Grandstaff) O’Brien. She attended Sheridan Park United Methodist Church and enjoyed watching movies, fishing, and listening to music. Family was her greatest love and her first priority.
Sharon worked for over 40 years as the Director of Polk County Center for Red Rock Community Action Program. She also volunteered on the Board for Central Iowa Health Services and was instrumental in helping to establish the Fourmile Community Center. She had a generous heart and gave her time and talents to so many people.
She is survived by her children, Jay (Penny) Brooks, Tosha (Till) Brooks, and Holly Fernandez (Robbie Williams); 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brother, Bill (Mary) O’Brien; aunt, Alice Marnin; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Sharon was preceded in death by her greatest love, Vernon Brooks; son, Mark Brooks; great-grandchildren, David, Christopher, and Nicholas, who were triplets and died in infancy; parents, Danny and Margaret O’Brien; and her siblings, Dick O’Brien, Mike O’Brien, and Connie Weiser.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2023, also at Hamilton’s, and will be followed by burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. A luncheon will take place at Sheridan Park United Methodist Church after the services.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Sharon to assist with funeral expenses.

My love and condolences to the family of Grandma Sharon. She was loved by all and will be forever missed. She was a wonderful lady that put smiles on everyone's hearts.
