Larry Young, Sr.
February 25, 2023
Larry Keith Young Sr., 76, a proud East-sider of Des Moines, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Mercy Hospital.
Larry was born October 23, 1946. He was raised by his parents Richard and Mary Young on the East Side of Des Moines. Growing up he attended Phillips and Lucas Elementary schools, Woodrow Wilson Junior High, and East High School. Larry attended Grandview College and Drake University before proudly serving in the Vietnam War.
Larry was a hard-working family man. He was employed by Mid-American Energy (Iowa Power & Light Co.) for over 38 years. He had countless friends from his years spent there. Larry loved attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events as they grew up; rarely missing a game. He was also a coach to many on the East Side; both baseball and basketball. He also loved music of all kinds, and loved to sing when given the chance. Larry treasured his time spent with family, and was a pillar to the Young Family. Larry will be missed in the many areas he touched; his family, his friends, and all who knew him.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Nancy Young; children, Larry (Robin) Young, Richie (Bobbi) Young, and Jenny (Scott) Rourke; grandchildren, Delaney, Elijah, Emmerson, Haley, Hayden, and Blakesly; his sister, Marsha (Butch) Reidburn; special cousin, Deb Lauritsen; and so many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Larry is preceded in death by his grandparents, Rev. W.S. and Leona Stanberry, whom he was very proud of the legacy they created; parents; and brothers, Leland and David.
Larry visitation will be held Friday, March 3, 2023 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be held the following day Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Experience Church, 2559 E Euclid Ave Des Moines, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be directed to Experience Church in loving memory of Larry.

Nancy,
I am so sorry see that you have been left without Larry for a while. My husband went ahead of me just 17 weeks ago and I know the despair you feel. But you have the confidence and joy knowing Larry is sitting at the feet of Jesus anxiously waiting to show you Heavens beauty. May you and the kids and grandchildren feel God's arms around you at this time. You are in my prayers.
