Service Details

William Donald Lynch, of Hartford, IA, peacefully passed away on February 23, 2023, at Mercy One Hospital, Des Moines, IA. A prayer service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, IA, with visitation to follow until 2:30 p.m. The family invites you to join them for a Celebration of Life starting about 3 p.m. at the Hartford Sportsman Club, 110 W. Elm Street, Hartford, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family to establish a memorial in Hartford Park in loving memory of Bill.

Bill was born on December 25, 1945, in Des Moines, IA. He was a loving husband to his wife of 56 years, Alma, and a devoted father to his son, Kelly (Victoria) of Nashville, TN. He was an active family man who supported his son in both his educational and athletic endeavors.

Bill like to synchronize his Seth Thomas clocks to simultaneously register the exact time. It is unfortunate for all of us who loved and will miss Bill that his time with us was cut short. Prior to entering into hospice care, he told his family, “We had a good run. I’m at peace,” which so represents the strong and kind man he was.

He was the son of Donald and Carol (Wheeler) Lynch, the fourth of nine children. He graduated from Dowling High School and worked at Armstrong/Titan Tire for 35 years and was active in Union Leadership. He served as an usher at the old Des Moines Theatre, where he met his wife-to-be, Alma J. Fedro. Bill served as a medic in the Army Reserves and was a member and Chief of the Hartford Volunteer Fire Department.

His parents preceded him in death as well as his sister, Donna Loughry; brother, Terry Lynch; brothers-in-law, Tom Haley and John Fedro; sister-in-law, Mary Theresa Beltrane; and niece, Sandy Loughry. He is survived by his wife, Alma J. (Fedro) Lynch of Hartford, IA; son, Kelly (Victoria) Lynch of Nashville, TN; sisters, Deanne (Russ) Prewitt and Kathy Haley of Des Moines, IA; brothers, Dennis (Colleen) of Fort Dodge, IA, David, Tom, and Larry Lynch of Des Moines, IA; brother-in-law, Lee Loughry of Des Moines; and 32 nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to the nurses, staff and doctors at Mercy One Hospital with a big thank you to his fellow volunteers at the Hartford Volunteer Fire Department for providing him with their services whenever it was needed.
