Richard Allen Stone lost his short battle with pancreatic cancer February 20, 2023 at the age of 73.
He was born to Dorothy and Virgil Stone on 2/25/1949 in Grinnell, IA.
Growing up on the family farm, he first attended a rural one room schoolhouse, eventually graduating from Grinnell Senior High School in 1967. After graduation he moved to Des Moines where he attended Lincoln Technical Institute. He then went on to work for Sears in the Merle Hay Mall for 38years.
In 1969 he married Diane Kay Williams of Des Moines. They were able to enjoy a few short weeks of marriage until he would travel to Fort Knox to report for Army National Guard training. He served for 17 years until honorably discharged with early retirement due to an eye injury.
His hobbies included working in his garage, restoring and repairing cars. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most of all, he enjoyed his spending time with his grandchildren.
He leaves behind his wife Diane; his daughter, Kym Howe; grandchildren, Jacob, Jessica Howe and Jenna; brother-in-law, Raymond Graham; niece, Stacy Walton; and nephew, Brian Graham.
He was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Dorothy Stone, and sister Barb Graham.
A private graveside service will be held at Highland Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines.
