February 21, 2023
Robert LuVerne Harris passed away Tuesday, February 21st, 2023, at home in Mitchellville. Son of Robert and Helen Harris, he was born on January 14th, 1940 in Webster City, Iowa.
He served in the U.S. Army for three years and attended Drake University, graduating with a degree in biology. He taught at South East Polk High School for 30 years. As an active member of the community, he was on City Council, Library Board and served on the Mitchellville Fire Department as Fire Chief for many years. An affinity for animals, he loved his dogs and cats and offered a home to all. He was an avid reader and outdoorsman, spending many seasons on the lake in Canada with his fishing buddies. Marrying Rochelle Caquelin on August 11th, 1962, the two enjoyed 60 loving years together. To this union, they had a son and daughter, Robert and Lenette. A loving husband and father, he especially had a dear place in his heart for his grandchildren. Along with Rochelle, the two created a beautiful flower garden, home, and family. To our Bob, Dad, Grandpa, and Chief, you will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
Cherishing his memory, survivors include his wife, Rochelle; daughter, Lenette; two grandchildren, Henrik and Celia Strand; sister, Jackie (Miles) Butler; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Helen; and his son, Robert.

Just wanted to pass along condolences to you all. Like so many Southeast Polk graduates, I too, loved Mr. Harris. His love of nature and the outdoors, his love of his family, and his love of a really good joke will be the things I take away from my time with him. Best to all of you from the Hortons.
