Phyllis Cozad

Phyllis Elaine Cozad, 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Norwalk Nursing and Rehab while under the care of Suncrest Hospice.

Phyllis was born November 15, 1927, in Jefferson, Iowa to Harold and Helen (Jenison) Wright. She graduated from Redfield High School. After high school, Phyllis attended Iowa School of Beauty.

She was united in marriage to Wayne Cozad on March 15, 1948. They were blessed with two daughters, Joyce and Brenda. Phyllis was a stay-at-home mother for her children when they were young. She then went to work for East High School in the school cafeteria. She went on to work for Look Magazine, and then for Frenchway Cleaners as a shirt presser until her retirement in 1989.

Phyllis was an avid bowler in her younger years. She was a member of Grant Park Christian Church and later Capitol Hill Christian Church. She loved going to church and singing in the choir. She also sang in the “Senior Singers”. She loved get-togethers and spending time with family.

She is survived by her daughters, Joyce (Richard) Porter and Brenda (Jeffrey) Grim, three grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Helen Wright; husband, Wayne Cozad; grandchildren, Shawn Porter and Tara Darby; sister, Julian Wright; and brother, Dale Wright.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Capitol Hill Christian Church, 3322 E 25th Street, Des Moines. Burial will take place at Iowa Veterans Cemetery after the service at 12:30 p.m.
