Lynda Esser
February 08, 2023
Lynda Joyce Esser, 67, of West Des Moines, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 surrounded by her family.
Lynda was born May 11, 1955, on a military base in Tunisia before setting roots in Westmont, Illinois. After high school, she attended the University of Houston and started family in Texas following enrollment in the US Army at Ft. Sam Houston as a medic. After discharge, Lynda devoted her time to raising her family.
Lynda enjoyed the arts, including the opera and the symphony. She was an avid reader and loved the opportunity to knit and share her creations with family. Lynda was a proud veteran and supporter of her fellow veterans. She lived in a house divided when it came to supporting her Chicago Cubs and Bears, with her Brewer and Packer husband, Bob. The only thing she coveted more than holding wins against Bob’s teams were spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Lynda’s strong knowledge of her family tree enabled long conversations and memories to be shared, which will be missed.
A wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother; Lynda enjoyed these roles above any job or career she ever engaged in. She may not have always agreed with your perspective, but she loved with a fierceness. Her presence will be missed by many she has been able to call family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Esser; daughter, Joyce Sanchez (Francisco), and grandchildren, Rachel (Tim) and Luca (Sanchez); son, Jeremy Scarborough and grandchildren, Mercedes and Joshua; son, Christopher Scarborough and grandchildren, Kylie, Sean, Luke, and Hayden; son, Justin Scarborough (Gail Georgou) and grandchildren Jonah, Mia, Tallulah, Cullen, Milo (Georgou), Elliott (Georgou), Halsey (Georgou); sister, Kathleen (Will) Quinn; nieces, Kristen and Lauren and nephews, Joseph and Michael; and sister, Pamela (David) Coe, and nephew Robert.
Lynda was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Joyce (Landgraf) Warren, son, Sean Scarborough, and step-son, Sean Esser.
A visitation for Lynda will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2023 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. A short burial ceremony will take place at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 14 at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, in Van Meter, IA.
