February 02, 2023
Beverly Jean Scherbart, 92, passed away peacefully at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny on Thursday, February 2, 2023.
Beverly was born September 21, 1930, to Alfred and Blanche Clark and grew up on their farm between Jefferson and Grand Junction. She attended country school then graduated from Grand Junction High School where she played basketball and was active in 4H. She married Dale Scherbart on October 2, 1949, and they resided on the Scherbart farm near Grand Junction and had two daughters, Yvonne and Jean. They moved to Ankeny in 1957 for Dale to work at the John Deere factory and they had a third daughter, Stephani.
Beverly was a Camp Fire Girl leader and a 50+ year member of Ankeny First United Methodist Church where she volunteered extensively. She worked at Sears in Des Moines and 23 years as a PBX operator for Iowa Lutheran Hospital. She also worked as a waitress at a diner in Ankeny where she learned how to make shakes and malts, a skill all her kids and grandchildren greatly appreciated. She loved to travel and took trips with her husband to Germany and Austria and later with her sisters to the UK. The sisters also took many bus trips together in the U.S. where they toured during the day and played cards in the evenings. She was an avid reader, did sewing projects and needlework, ate ice cream, and loved to play cards and games with friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale, sister Nedra Conroy and brothers Charles and Darrell Clark, daughter Jean Bosch and granddaughter Tiffany Bosch, and son-in-law Nick Vandoorn.
Beverly is survived by her daughters Yvonne Vandoorn and Stephani Scherbart; sister Ramona Stewart and sisters-in-law Clara Clark and Deanna Clark; son-in-law Larry Bosch; and grandchildren Aaron and Brad Vandoorn, Susan Bosch (Ashley Appleby) and Kenneth (Emily) Bosch; and great granddaughters Eedie and AnnMarie Bosch and many nieces and nephews.

Bev will be greatly missed by many. She was an extra mother to me and many others during our teen years. Jean and I met working at the A&W and will live in my heart forever. No mother should have to outlive their child. Their arms are around each other again.
I live in western Colorado now, and when I visit Iowa and go through Ankeny, I can't believe the changes. I hope Bev was able to keep up with them.

Deepest heartfelt sympathy to all of Beverly's family. I knew her from Ankeny Methodist Church and Stephanie was in school with our daughter Renae. Beverly always had a smile and friendly greeting. It was a pleasure to have known her. A delightful lady.

So sorry and incredibly sad to hear of Bevs passing. I worked with her at Iowa Lutheran for many great years. She was an incredible employee and good friend. I admired her so much and was blessed and grateful to have the opportunity to know her over many special years. We shared many life experiences, with joy and with sadness together through our years as coworkers. Hugs to you all. Please know how much she was valued and appreciated.

I was saddened to learn today of the death of your mother. I knew her from when I was Stephani's elementary art teacher and also through functions at the Ankeny First United Methodist Church. She was a lovely lady. Prayers to your family during this sad time.
