Service Details

Joshua David Cooper, 33, passed away February 2, 2023.

Josh was born June 21, 1989 in Des Moines to David and Ruth Cooper. He enjoyed being outdoors and had many hobbies, cooking, working out, reading, writing, storytelling, skateboarding, and his favorite, disc golf. Josh appreciated music of all kinds and he loved playing the drums. His clothes always had to be just right and look nice. Josh loved to quote his favorite movie, “Heavyweights”. He had a laugh that was contagious.

He was a hard worker and most recently worked for Cupertino Electric. Josh was a proud member of IBEW Local 347 and Bricklayers Local 3.

Josh was a stranger to no one. He was compassionate and loved deeply. When Josh gave you a hug, it was a genuine and heartfelt hug, long and strong.

He battled drug addiction for over 20 years and fought long and hard for his recovery. He had been clean for 3 years. Josh would want others to know that addiction thrives in the dark, bring it into the light and know that there is hope. He was committed to helping others beat their addiction until his last breath.

He is survived by his parents, David and Ruth Cooper; sisters, Bethany (fiancé, Cody Gilbert) Cooper and Megan Cooper; brother, Walker Cooper; grandmothers, Eva Cooper and Margie Barton; and a host of extended family and friends.

Joshua was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Robert Cooper and Robert Barton.

The family will greet friends Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 11:30 a.m. at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, 314 E. Army Post Road.
