Stephen Proctor
February 01, 2023
Stephen Charles Proctor, 38, passed away in an automobile accident on Wednesday, February 1, 2023.
Stephen was born October 1, 1984, in Des Moines, Iowa to Stephen R. and Sharon (Haifley) Proctor. He loved his family and organized many of the family holiday gatherings. He was always making plans. He had a passion for cooking and baking, and enjoyed helping Mandy in the kitchen. He was the kindest person you would ever meet and would bend over backwards for anyone, but would mess with you the whole time. His orneriness was almost as strong as his generosity. Stephen enjoyed gaming, especially Pokemon, cosplay, and making trips to Canada for conventions. He was a very kind-hearted person who donated his time to Boy Scouts and helping kids.
He is survived by his future wife, Mandy Peterson; parents, Sharon and Stephen Proctor; brother, James Proctor; uncle and aunts, Charles and Karen Proctor, Kay Proctor-McNeeley; best friend, Terra Kelly; and many cousins, extended family, and friends.
Stephen was preceded in death by his uncle, Bob Proctor; and his grandparents, Charles and Elizabeth Proctor, and Clarence and Doris Haifley.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by funeral service at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines. Cremation will take place after the service. Stephen will be interred at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Stephen.

Dear Stephen, Sharon. And James,
My heart ❤ weeps for your sorrow. It is so difficult to process losing a son and brother so suddenly. There are no words to dispell the deep loss. One can say they are with God and are near you whenever you think of him, but even though I believe that with all my being, it doesn't disburse the painful sorrow that his arms will never hug you again in this lifetime. There is a piece of your heart that will always miss him. The pain of his loss will lessen over time, but it will always be there. However for me, I smile when I hear a gentle breeze rustle the leaves 🍃on a tree's branches. I swear I hear my mother's voice and it soothes my ❤ heartache. I feed the birds 🐦 to honor and share a smile with my mom. I hope you find some activity outdoors that will make you feel closer to him and bring a sweet smile to your heart and face.
May there be many Blessings in your lives while you process your sorrow.
Much Love,
Cyndy (Hallberg) Patsche

This was one of the toughest obituaries I have ever found out about. Stephen was one of the Scouts in our troop. He was always there to help out anyone, and always had that cheerful smile going all the time. Rest easy, we will all miss you!
