Robert Frederick Cox Jr., 54, passed away on February 2, 2023 after a short but courageous battle with Esophageal Cancer. He was born in Chariton, Iowa on March 5, 1968, son of Bob Sr. and Edwina (Wright) Current.

Robert graduated in 1986 from Southeast Polk High School. He and Tamara were married on March 3, 2003 (3-3-03). He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and an Iowa Hawkeye fan. Robert had a passion for fishing, especially deep-sea fishing. Robert caught the 2nd largest Crappie in the state of Iowa. He loved wood working and watching the History Chanel. Robert loved playing cards and visiting a few casinos. Robert loved to BBQ and smoke meat.

Robert loved and had a passion for many things in life, but most importantly was his family…he loved his grandchildren and bantering with his brothers and his little sis was a must. Family was of the upmost important thing to him.

Robert is survived by his wife of 21 years, Tamara; children and grandchildren Nicholas Cox, (Lane, Kahlene, Jamison, Marie and Ayda), Kelsie (Jonathan Sandoval) Brawdy, (Eliza, Quinn and Jade), Paige (Kevin Adams) Cox, (Bradon, Keyton, Hunter, Micah and Ellyana), Joshua Brawdy, and Logan (Brianna) Brawdy, (Adelyne, Amara and Elijah), Alivia, Cate, Koda and Hayden; father, Tommy Current; brothers, Heath (Janelle) Current and Steven (Tanya) Current; sister, Angie (Carlos) Wilder; mother and father in law, Darwin and Judy Sonnenburg; brother and sister in laws, Rhonda Kigar, Tina Marie (Raymond) Mass and Brandon (Meagan) Sonnenburg. He will also be missed by several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and plenty of cousins. Robert is preceded in death by his father, Bob Cox Sr.; mother, Edwina Current; grandchildren, Ace and Angel and grandmother, Ethel Askren, grandma Bishop and grandma and grandpa Battin.

Services will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023 at 12:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Family will greet friends on Thursday, February 9, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Taylor House Hospice for the exceptional care he received while he was there.
