Selfia "Sofie" Ochoa

Selfia “Sofie” Ochoa, 62, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.
Sofie was born January 30, 1961, in Von Ormy, Texas to Dionicio and Conception (Flores) Ochoa. She graduated from East High School in Des Moines in 1979. Following high school, she attended DMACC where she earned her Associate’s Degree in Business. Sofie worked for the State of Iowa in the office of the Secretary of State until her retirement in 2010.
She enjoyed baking, making piñatas, and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys. Most of all, she loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca (Ruben) Martinez; grandchildren, Diego Correa, Eric Correa, America Martinez, and Yaretzi Martinez; sister, Isabel “Christina” Ochoa; brother, Ismael Ochoa; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family, and many friends.
Sofie was preceded in death by her parents and other siblings.
There will be a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 6, 2023 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Sofie.
