Arthur “Art” Paul Cockerham, 76, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Clearview Home and Estates in Mount Ayr, just 11 days after his beloved wife, Kathy passed away. He was born December 18, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Art proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. While stationed in San Diego, California he met and married the love of his life. Art and Kathy married on November 2, 1968, and had three children. Art worked many odd jobs before joining the U.S. Postal Service where he worked as a clerk for 30-plus years before retiring. In life he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, drinking beer, and horse racing. He also enjoyed time spent with his family and friends as he was always the “life of the party.”

Art is survived by his children, Kenneth (Michelle) Cockerham of Ankeny and Heather (John) Fleming of Des Moines; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Joe Jennings, Bob Jennings, and Rory Cockerham.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Kathy; daughter, Beth; grandson, Donald; brother, Terry; and his parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Walnut Woods State Park Lodge from 12:00 to 10:00 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2023.

Art and Kathy will be interned together at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter in a private ceremony.
