Leona L. Henry

Leona Lucille Henry, 84, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Trinity Center in Des Moines.

Leona was born November 17, 1938, in Winterset, Iowa to Harry and Helen (Kaufman) Bennett. She worked as a bookkeeper during her working years for a variety of organizations. Leona enjoyed sewing and was a wonderful cook. Her husband, Chuck gave her the title “World’s Best Cook”, and it was well deserved.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Charles “Chuck” Henry; children, Micky (Deb) Stoker, Lisa (Dallas) Hicks, Terri Stoker, Randy Sonderleiter, Kevin (Tammy) Sonderleiter, Laura (Joseph) Jacinto, and David (Traci) Sonderleiter; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Beverly (Leo) Barry; cousin, Elton Wolfe; and a host of other extended family and friends.

Leona was preceded in death by her daughter, Vicki Gandy and eleven siblings.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday January 28, 2023 at Fairview Cemetery, Hwy 169, Winterset and then proceed to Bennett Cabin at Winterset City Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to a hospice organization of the donors’ choice.
