Harold Sanford, Jr.
January 19, 2023
Harold Ray Sanford, Jr., 62, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023.
Harold was born July 26, 1960 to Harold Sr. and Sandra Sanford. He spent the majority of his life in the Des Moines area. Harold graduated from East High School in 1978. Harold moved to Davenport and worked as a well-sought-after custom installer of stereos in both boats and cars. He then moved to Muscatine where his daughter, Abigail Elizabeth, and his son, Drake Evan were born. While there, he worked at Anheuser Busch and Hon Manufacturing. Moving back to Des Moines in 1994, he worked for Entenmann’s Bread, Younkers Valley West, and as a Ranger for Sugar Creek Golf Course in Waukee.
Harold was an avid golfer. He enjoyed golf leagues and was proud to have gotten a hole-in-one at Sugar Creek. He also loved cars and was a sharp dresser. It was a challenge keeping him from Amazon and car lots! He loved to spend time with his family and friends. Harold spent the last 3 years at Azria Health Park Place, where he was dearly loved by both staff and residents, and he served as President of Resident Council.
He is survived by his children, Abigail Sanford (Jon Matteson) and Drake Sanford (Melanie); grandchildren, Grayson, Finley, and Ellianna; one granddaughter on the way in March; brothers, Bryan Sanford (Kathy) and Shawn Sanford (Caryn); as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Sanford, Sr. and Sandra Sanford.
There will be a Celebration of Life from 11:00a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2023 at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, 6567 Bloomfield Road, Des Moines, IA 50320. Lunch will be provided.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Azria Health Park Place, 2401 E 8th Street, Des Moines, IA 50316 or Iowa Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association.

I vividly recall July 26, 1960, when the new Harold, Sr., came to notify us of the new Harold, Jr. Sandra and Harold were very proud of their new first son..as they were of their next two sons. This was my first nephew.

Harold was my cousin in crime. I would love to hear we were going to Uncle Harold's and Aunt Sandys. That would mean all nite long we were able to sing, play games, wrestle and in the end never wanting to go home. I believe Harold and I could sing the song called BEN by Michael Jackson better than he could, and we also had the Partridge Family down pretty good too! I will miss you cousin. ❣

You will be much missed but Not forgotten. You helped me start to understand the disease we both shared.
R.I.P. Harold meet me at the gate when it's my turn.
