Warren “Jack” George Dilworth, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines.

Warren was born February 22, 1929, in Storm Lake, Iowa to Martin L. and Gertrude L. (Heers) Dilworth. He was raised in Fonda, Iowa, and has been a resident of the Des Moines area since 1945. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1949, and the United States Army from 1951 to 1954. He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. He worked as a machinist for Woodford Manufacturing, and then for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Highland Park American Legion Post 374 for over 50 years.

Warren loved life! He enjoyed singing, playing the guitar, and was an avid fisherman and small game hunter. He loved being outdoors, doing yard work, and taking care of his cats and squirrels. He had a love for all animals. Warren enjoyed riding motorcycles and traveling. Some of his favorite destinations were the Black Hills, the Grand Canyon, New Mexico, and Arizona. He had a great sense of humor and will be remembered fondly as the family jokester.

He is survived by his loving wife, Zelma; daughters, Linda (Michael) Peters and Anna (Roger) Mintzer; son, Patrick Dilworth, Sr.; grandchildren, Stephen Smith, Ryan Smith, Amanda Smith, Travis Mintzer, Patrick Dilworth, Jr., and Zelma Abare-Dilworth; great-grandchildren, Delaney Smith and Evelyn Smith; siblings, Martin “Lanny” Dilworth, Barbara Hill, Vicki Helms, and Debrey Taylor; and many nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

Warren was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Gertrude Dilworth; step-mother, Edna Dilworth; and sister, Marlene Gregan.

Viewing will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Our Lady of the Americas Catholic Church, 1271 East 9th Street, Des Moines, IA 50316. Burial with military honors will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.
