Donald Hills

Donald Allen Hills passed peacefully in his sleep January 15, 2023 after battling cancer for many years. Through it all he maintained his caring nature, always willing to help others along with his wit and sense of humor.

Don graduated from Southeast Polk High School in 2002, attended DMACC, and worked various jobs throughout his career. He enjoyed cooking and smoking different kinds of meat, going to Comic-Con and his online comic with his friend Donovan. Don loved the countryside, a good drive, bonfires, Des Moines Buccaneers hockey, and animals, especially his dog, Indiana. He could put a smile on anyone’s face with his jokes.

Prior to his health decline Don enjoyed playing his guitar and singing. He was an accomplished artist and drew several commissioned pieces. His ability to turn a piece of lumber into what he imagined was a special gift he enjoyed sharing. He enjoyed working on his cars especially his convertible! He would put all his energy into whatever project he was working on. His shining light will be missed but never forgotten.

Don is survived by his parents, Don and Lynda; sister, Kara (Travis), twin brother, Derrik (Jessica); paternal grandfather, Don; and his dear beloved dog, Indiana who has been at his side for support over the past decade. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert and ShirlAnn; and his paternal grandmother, Kay.

Services will be at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., in Des Moines. Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, January 27, 2023 with a 10:00 a.m., service on Saturday, January 28, 2023. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
